The Department of Energy (DOE) announces that its fuel caravan has finally pushed through to address fuel supply needs in the Bicol region.
In a media briefing earlier, DOE Undersecretary and Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER) Chairperson Felix William B. Fuentebella said that fuel supply efforts in the Bicol region have ramped up, with 42 tankers delivering around 1 million liters of gasoline and diesel, while 19 LPG tankers carrying 22,000 cylinders have been distributed to key areas such as Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, and Masbate to ensure energy needs are met.
“We assure the Bicolanos that the Department of Energy (DOE) and the oil companies of our strategic action in addressing their needs in the region. We are working tirelessly to expedite the replenishment process and ensure that fuel tankers can deliver additional supplies without delay to keep communities and emergency response operations running smoothly,” said Fuentebella.
Meanwhile, for LPG supply, the 22,000 LPG cylinders are projected to sustain energy needs for 22,000 households over the next 2 to 3 weeks, while the 1 million liters of petroleum products can power roughly 25,000 ambulances, ensuring essential emergency services remain uninterrupted.
Additionally, the DOE is collaborating with oil companies to accelerate the replenishment of fuel stocks at the 56 outlets that are currently out of operation.
The energy department also said that around 76%, or 180 out of 236 retail outlets, are now up and running, ensuring fuel availability to aid in both ongoing recovery efforts and the continuity of essential services in impacted areas.
Concurrently, to brace for Severe Tropical Storm Leon, the DOE has called on energy stakeholders to adopt proactive measures that will safeguard infrastructure and maintain the continuity of essential services.
