02.05.2025. Alsons Power Gears Up for A Bigger 2025 SEC Powerplant

Alsons Power Group is gearing up for significant growth and strategic developments in 2025, emphasizing renewable energy projects and expanded market participation to meet the country’s increasing energy demands.

“Our mission is clear—to continuously provide safe, reliable, and affordable electricity while creating lasting value for today and generations to come…With our collective strengths, I am confident we can reach new milestones and overcome any hurdles along the way,” said Alsons Power CEO Antonio Miguel B. Alcantara.

The company is set to launch its first large-scale solar power plant in Mindanao during the first half of the year. This marks a key milestone in its renewable energy initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to providing cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Alongside its solar energy ventures, the development of the 37.8-megawatt (MW) Sindangan-Zambo River Power Plant and the 53 MW Bago Hydro Power Plant is slated for construction within the year. These renewable energy projects are expected to bolster the company’s green energy portfolio and support the national grid.

In addition to its renewable energy efforts, Alsons Power is nearing the completion of Phase 1 of its 95.2 MW Bohol In-Island Diesel Power Station in Ubay. The facility will serve as a backup power source for Bohol consumers during natural disasters or grid isolation incidents. Alcantara noted that this project presents opportunities in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and Ancillary Reserve market over the next three to five years.

To further enhance operational capabilities, Alsons Power has reactivated Unit 1 of the Mapalad Power Corporation diesel power plant in Iligan City. This move positions the company to tap into the ancillary reserve market, ensuring greater stability for Mindanao’s energy supply.

On the market front, the company is strengthening its participation in the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) market, having already secured key clients such as Holcim Philippines and Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc. with a combined contracted capacity of 43 MW. The group aims to expand its market share further by the end of 2025.

With its simultaneous investments in renewable energy, market expansion, and community development, Alsons Power Group is poised to play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable and energy-secure future for the Philippines.
