In compliance with the guidelines of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has put maintenance activities on hold from May 5 to 16 to ensure stable power transmission during the upcoming elections.

To secure uninterrupted power during the midterm elections on May 12, NGCP will suspend all non-essential maintenance work near substations and transmission lines from May 5 to 16. This move follows the contingency measures set by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Resolution No. 10999 and Resolution No. 11055, which outline the roles of various agencies in maintaining peace and order during the electoral process.

According to NGCP, maintenance and construction work inside substations and within 300 meters of energized power lines will also be suspended during this period. As of April 30, NGCP has cleared all transmission lines of vegetation and obstructions, except for one line in South Luzon, where trimming negotiations with a landowner are still ongoing.

In addition, NGCP has updated its power outlook, indicating sufficient supply during the critical election weeks. Power plant maintenance schedules have also been adjusted to ensure availability.

To further guarantee power reliability, NGCP will activate its 24/7 Overall Command Center from May 11 to 8:00 PM on May 14, with critical units like System Operations (SO) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) fully operational. Technical personnel, including line crews, engineers, pilots, and maintenance staff, will be stationed strategically to respond to potential issues. Administrative and support teams will also be on standby.

NGCP formed the Power Task Force Elections (PTFE) as early as February to oversee preparations, ensuring transmission network security during the voting period. Local absentee voting started on April 28, while the canvassing and proclamation of winners will take place from May 13 to 19.

“NGCP is strictly following its contingency measures and coordinating with concerned groups to ensure a power interruption-free election, especially during the crucial periods prescribed by the COMELEC,” said NGCP.
