Green Financing and AI Take Center Stage at PH Energy Efficiency Conference

The Department of Energy (DOE) put a spotlight on the role of green financing and artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing energy efficiency during the opening of the Philippine Conference on Energy Efficiency and Conservation (PCEEC) 2025.

Held at the Makati Diamond Residences, the special conference carried the theme “Advancing EEC through Green Financing and Artificial Intelligence,” which reflects the government’s push to make energy efficiency a national movement driven by innovation, collaboration, and data.

In his keynote address, DOE Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella highlighted that energy efficiency is no longer just about compliance. “It’s not about using less energy but being wiser and smarter about it,” Fuentebella said. He noted the agency’s efforts to simplify financial tools, which include things such as green bonds, performance-based incentives, and energy service contracts. These are set to encourage wider participation in energy efficiency initiatives.

The conference also highlighted how AI is helping organizations reduce energy consumption, costs, and emissions via predictive maintenance, real-time monitoring, and smart building automation. Meanwhile, green financing is enabling not only infrastructure upgrades but also research and development, digitalization, and capacity-building efforts.

The DOE reiterated its strong commitment to strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks to de-risk investments and attract broader stakeholder engagement. The initiatives are part of the country’s grander energy transition and climate action goals under the Philippine Energy Plan.

Through PCEEC 2025, the department aims to foster strong public-private partnerships and mobilize action across sectors. “Sustainability is not just a destination, it is a journey we must take together,” the DOE stated, calling on all stakeholders to view energy efficiency as both a responsibility and an opportunity for national transformation.
