MMDA and PNOC Partner to Power Facilities with Solar Energy

In a move to advance sustainability in government operations, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has partnered with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) to install solar power systems in two of its key facilities.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed by both agencies, PNOC will help install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at the MMDA Carmona facility in Cavite and the MMDA Annex Building in Pasig City. The initiative supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for government offices to adopt more energy-resilient and climate-friendly technologies.

The MMDA Carmona Development Facility, which was once a landfill site, is now used as a training and environmental resource center. It is set to receive a ground-mounted solar PV system that will help reduce its energy consumption from conventional sources. Meanwhile, the MMDA Annex Building, which is being designed to meet BERDE 3-star sustainability standards, will soon be equipped with a rooftop solar installation.

PNOC President and CEO Oliver Butalid emphasized that the partnership highlights the growing role of renewable energy in promoting public sector efficiency and environmental stewardship. He noted that government agencies must lead by example in adopting clean energy solutions.

The collaboration is in line with grander national efforts to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency in public infrastructure, and enhance the country’s overall energy security.
