AppleOne enters energy with 7MW Mindanao solar plant

Cebu-based property developer AppleOne Group has officially entered the renewable energy sector through its new subsidiary Astronergy, launching its first solar farm in Zamboanga del Norte.

The 23-hectare facility, now in the testing and commissioning phase, features 10,000 installed solar panels and is designed to generate up to 7 megawatts (MW) of direct current power in its first phase. Once fully operational by September 2025, the solar plant will supply power to the local grid under a power purchase agreement with Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZANECO).

Astronergy’s project supports the Philippine government’s push for energy self-sufficiency and reduced reliance on imported fuels. A recent Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) report underscores the importance of expanding domestic renewable sources to secure long-term energy affordability and reliability.

“We’ve always been deliberate in where we grow the business,” said Ray Manigsaca, President and CEO of AppleOne Group. “Energy is a natural next step for us. We saw an opportunity to add value to our communities and support the country’s energy transition.”

Beyond contributing clean power to the grid, the project is delivering local impact—from job creation during the construction and commissioning stages to improved electricity access for surrounding communities.

“We want the impact to be felt where it matters most,” Manigsaca added. “Reliable power makes a difference in how communities grow, how businesses run, and how people live. That’s the kind of work we want to be part of.”

AppleOne selected Zamboanga del Norte for its strategic access to land, existing NGCP grid connectivity, and strong potential for scale. Future development phases could expand capacity up to 25 MW, with the ability to supply other regions such as the Visayas.

Currently, the project operates under a single electric cooperative agreement, but AppleOne is also eyeing potential joint ventures—including with foreign partners—to accelerate Astronergy’s growth.

As AppleOne expands beyond real estate and healthcare, its entry into the energy sector marks a strategic move aligned with national priorities and growing demand for sustainable infrastructure.
