Meralco, Makati Clear Over 2,000 Kilograms of Illegal Wires to Cut Hazards and Protect Power

Over 2,000 kilograms of unauthorized wire connections were dismantled in Makati through a Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and city-led cleanup drive.

The operation forms part of a wider effort to reduce fire hazards and protect electricity services in the city.

During the wire-clearing operations, Makati Mayor Nancy Binay emphasized the importance of collaboration between the local government and the private sector in the success of the initiative. She also reiterated that all pole users, including telecommunications and internet service providers, must secure the necessary permits before attaching to Meralco facilities.

Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga reiterated the company’s proactive efforts to promote public safety and reliable service.

“Meralco will continue to conduct more operations like these with the help of the LGUs to maintain not only the integrity of our distribution facilities but most importantly to ensure everyone’s safety,” he said.
