President Marcos hails Cavite NING*NING rooftop solar as model for innovation

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spotlighted the country’s growing renewable-energy innovation during his visit to the NING*NING solar rooftop project in Naic, Cavite on Tuesday, November 25. He calls it a model for community-based clean power solutions as the project is described as the world’s first grid-connected, utility-scale solar rooftop system installed within a socialized housing community.

Marcos, in his keynote speech, said the initiative represents a shift toward new and more imaginative approaches to clean energy, citing how it integrates technology directly into homes. He emphasized that the benefits extend not only to residents, but also to the wider power system by contributing additional renewable energy to the grid.

The President pointed to the project’s international recognition, which includes an award at the Asian Power Awards 2025, as evidence of the Philippines’ growing capability in renewable-energy innovation. He described the development as an example of the creative thinking needed to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels.

In his remarks, Marcos said, “This is a prime example of the creativity, of the new thinking, of innovation that brings technologies together in an imaginative and innovative way… to the advantage to the residents here, to the power generation in our country, to our shift from fossil fuels to renewable.” He also stressed the importance of adapting to new energy challenges, saying, “We cannot continue to do the same things that we did before.”

Marcos concluded that he hopes similar renewable-powered communities can be replicated across other parts of the country. He said the government will continue improving processes to support and accelerate projects of this kind. Finally, he underscored the importance of collaboration among the public sector, private developers, and local communities.
