Alternergy Holdings Corporation announced that it has received all five Certificates of Award (COA) from the Department of Energy (DOE) for the renewable energy projects it won under Green Energy Auction 4 (GEA 4), making it one of the earliest companies to complete post-auction requirements.
The COAs were issued in early January 2026, after Alternergy completed and submitted all required documents, which include System Impact Studies and performance bonds, before the original December 5, 2025 deadline. The DOE later extended the submission period to the end of January 2026.
Alternergy president Gerry P. Magbanua said receiving all five Certificates of Award spotlights the readiness of the company’s GEA 4 projects. “The early issuance of the COAs demonstrates that these projects have met the post-auction requirements and are ready to move forward,” he said.
The five awarded projects represent a combined 500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity, covering wind, floating solar, and solar with battery storage.
Receiving a Certificate of Award is a key step in the government’s renewable energy auction process. It confirms that a project has met initial regulatory and technical requirements following the auction, thus allowing developers to proceed with detailed development activities and move closer toward the construction and grid connection phases.
Two of the awarded projects are onshore wind facilities—the Tayabas North Wind Project in Quezon and the Alegria Wind Project in Cebu—with a combined capacity of over 200 MW.
Alternergy also secured COAs for two aqua-voltaic aka floating solar projects, Liberty Floating Solar Phase A and Phase B, which are both located in Tarlac. The company said these projects will be among the country’s earliest large-scale floating solar initiatives.
The fifth project is the Kalandagan Solar + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.
Magbanua also said that the projects support Alternergy’s growth strategy under its “One Green Gigawatt by 2030” goal, as the company continues to expand its renewable portfolio across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
How could early completion of post-auction requirements affect how quickly new renewable energy projects are built and connected to the grid?
