Alternergy begins commercial operations of 28-MWp Balsik Solar Power Plant in Bataan

Alternergy Holdings Corporation has started commercial operations of its 28-megawatt peak (MWp) Balsik Solar Power Plant located in Hermosa, Bataan. This marks the first of four total power projects the company is set to bring online in 2026.

The renewable energy firm said the facility began delivering clean power following the completion of testing and commissioning and the issuance of the Final Certificate of Authority to Connect (FCATC) by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP)

“Following the completion of the testing and commissioning and the issuance of the Final Certificate of Authority to Connect (FCATC) by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, the Balsik Solar Power Plant will start delivering clean and renewable power,” said Gerry P. Magbanua, president of Alternergy and director of Solana Solar Alpha, Inc.

Magbanua said the Hermosa facility will play a direct role in supporting the sustainability goals of electricity users. “It will generate 45,000 MWh of renewable energy annually and directly provide power to industrial and commercial customers in support of their sustainability initiatives,” he said.

Alternergy added that the project is expected to help reduce environmental impact, with the company estimating around 31,000 in avoided carbon emissions annually from the plant’s operations.

The Balsik Solar Power Plant covers roughly 30 hectares and uses more than 45,000 bifacial solar modules supported by six inverter stations. It is connected to the NGCP Hermosa Substation through a short 300-meter, 69-kilovolt transmission line.

Magbanua also said the project strengthens Alternergy’s broader solar portfolio, which spans multiple project types. “The Balsik Solar Power Plant expands our growing portfolio of solar assets, reinforcing Alternergy’s commitment to sustainable energy,” he said.

Alternergy currently owns and operates 10 solar farms and is developing additional projects awarded under Green Energy Auction 4, including floating solar and solar-plus-battery facilities with a combined capacity of up to 240 MWp.

Magbanua described 2026 as a milestone year for the company. “This is a pivotal and busy year for the Alternergy Group,” he said, as the firm brings multiple projects into commercial operations and begins generating steady revenues.

As more renewable energy projects reach commercial operation, how quickly can new capacity be translated into reliable and sustained additions to the country’s power supply?
