Rossan SJ Rosero-Lee (1st).

Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NONECO) has secured a new 30-megawatt (MW) power supply agreement with Aboitiz Power Corporation, locking in a blended baseload and solar supply expected to support demand growth across northern Negros Occidental.

The contract, awarded following a Competitive Selection Process, covers a diversified energy mix sourced from Aboitiz Solar Power Inc. (ASPI) and GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC). Under the agreement, NONECO will draw 10 MW of mid-merit supply from ASPI and 20 MW of baseload capacity from GMEC.

The combination is designed to meet the cooperative’s core demand while integrating renewable energy into its portfolio — a structure that could temper exposure to spot market volatility and strengthen reliability in its franchise area.

NONECO’s franchise area covers the cities of Victorias, Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante and San Carlos, as well as the municipalities of Manapla, Toboso, E.B. Magalona and Calatrava. The expanded footprint has increased the cooperative’s load requirements in recent years, making longer-term contracting critical to supply security.

“The steady supply at competitive rates ensures continuous support for local growth and enhanced quality of life as our region evolves, fostering a prosperous future for the businesses and communities we serve,” NONECO Board President Nicolas U. Camara said.

General Manager Engr. Wilbe B. Bilbao added, “We are excited about this long-term deal as it aligns with our commitment in helping address unique power requirements across all service areas.”

For AboitizPower, the deal reinforces its dual-track strategy of maintaining thermal capacity for baseload stability while scaling renewable generation.

“At the core of this partnership is trust. We are honored that NONECO has chosen AboitizPower to deliver a 30 MW combined supply that will sustain communities and business alike,” said Gerard Roxas, AboitizPower Wholesale Vice President for Commercial Planning and Portfolio Management. “By supplying dependable baseload power and solar energy, we are providing a balanced solution that addresses the dual need for sustainability and reliability.”
