ERC reminds public of 5% electricity discount for qualified senior citizens

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has reminded the public of the availability of a 5% power bill discount for qualified senior citizens, as part of its efforts to ensure that marginalized groups get the benefits entitled to them by the law.

The reminder was shared by ERC Executive Director Nancy Aurora Q. Fajardo during the radio program “Golden Heart: Puso Para Sa Seniors” on February 27, 2026. The program was organized by the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) with the help of the Presidential Broadcast Service-Bureau of Broadcast Services.

Fajardo said that the enforcement of such discounts is part of the ERC’s mandate to protect electricity consumers, especially vulnerable groups such as senior citizens.

“Patuloy na sinusuportahan ng ERC ang implementasyon ng mga ganitong programang makabubuti sa kapakanan ng ating senior citizens bilang pagkilala sa kanilang kontribusyon noong mga panahong aktibo pa sila,” Fajardo said.

Under Section 4 of Republic Act No. 9994, or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, qualified senior citizens are entitled to a 5% discount on their monthly electricity bill, as long as their consumption remains below 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month. The discount is also limited to the registered residence of the senior, regardless if multiple seniors live in the same household.

To remain eligible for the discount, beneficiaries must submit the required documentation and remember to renew their eligibility annually.
