First Gen, HMR Envirocycle roll out Lopez Group e-waste drive

First Gen Corporation has partnered with e-waste recycler HMR Envirocycle Philippines, Inc. to launch a group-wide electronic waste (e-waste) collection initiative aimed at improving corporate circularity practices and reducing improper disposal of end-of-life IT equipment.

HMR Envirocycle, a full-service environmental services firm specializing in electronic waste recycling, asset recovery, and end-of-life electronics processing, will serve as the official downstream partner responsible for handling, dismantling, and recycling all collected materials under the initiative.

The program, called “Drop IT for Good,” was launched on June 4, 2026 at the Rockwell Business Center in Pasig City. It mobilizes employees across the Lopez Group, including subsidiaries and parent firm First Philippine Holdings Corporation, to bring in discarded electronics such as old gadgets, cables, batteries, and IT equipment for proper recovery and recycling.

Collected items will be processed by HMR Envirocycle.

“Through this partnership with HMR Envirocycle, the First Gen Group aims to help keep e-waste away from landfills, waterways, and informal disposal channels, while promoting greater awareness of circular and responsible waste management,” First Gen vice president Shirley Cruz said at the launch.

She added that the campaign is designed to make sustainability action more practical for employees across the conglomerate.

“Drop IT for Good reflects this broader commitment by making environmental action practical and accessible for employees,” Cruz added. “By providing workplace-based collection points and building awareness on proper e-waste disposal, the campaign turns sustainability from a broad commitment into an everyday choice.”

The launch also featured participation from other Lopez Group sustainability leaders, including representatives from the Lopez Group and the Oscar M. Lopez Center, as well as environmental officers from Energy Development Corporation, underscoring a coordinated group-wide push on environmental stewardship.

Beyond collection logistics, the campaign is positioned as an internal awareness drive on the risks posed by improperly discarded electronics and the role of employees in supporting responsible waste systems.

HMR Envirocycle also conducted an awareness briefing during the launch, highlighting that even small devices—such as chargers, keyboards, and batteries—can create environmental risks if not properly managed, while stressing recycling and material recovery pathways under a circular economy framework.

The initiative builds on First Gen’s broader environmental programs, including climate education and reforestation efforts, as the company continues to align its corporate sustainability agenda with its renewable energy portfolio.
