Aboitiz unit Hedcor Inc. has signed a deal with the Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative Inc. (MOELC-1) to supply one megawatt (MW) of power from its 68.8-MW hydropower project in Mindanao.
The firms signed a renewable energy supply agreement (RESA), allowing MOELC-1 to source one MW of power from Hedcor’s run-of-river hydro power project in Manolo Fortich.
The project, still under construction, is set to be finished in 2017.
“The development of this renewable energy (RE) source is promoting energy efficiency and clean energy and this will definitely boost the economic activity in our region and in the Mindanao region,” said MOELCI-1 board president Rey Roger Villanueva.
Hedcor vice president for Mindanao Operations Rolando Pacquiao said that the partnership the firm signed with MOELC-1 shows their support for the Philippine National Renewable Energy Program, which aims to increase the country’s RE capacity by 2020.
“With this agreement, we have forged, 1000 kWh of clean and renewable energy will be coming into Misamis Occidental and a total of 68.8-MW of clean energy for Mindanao by 2017,” he said.
MOELC-1 has a peak demand of 10 MW, and supplies power to areas in Northern Mindanao. Hedcor runs nine hydropower plants in the region with a combined capacity of 60 MW.
