Aboitiz Power Corporation began doubling its capacity feed to the Visayas Grid through its San Carlos Sun Power Inc. (SaCaSun) facility following the completion of the south transmission line in Negros Occidental.

Based on a report from the Manila Bulletin, AboitizPower President and CEO Emmanuel Rubio said the facility can now operate more inverters and increase its generating capacity from 23 megawatts (MW) to 46MW.

Completed in March 2016, SaCaSun’s solar facility is AboitizPower’s first utility-scale, ground mounted solar PV installation with an installed capacity of 59 megawatt-peak (MWp).

However, the facility’s power generation narrowed down for years from transmission capacity congestions in the Visayas Grid, as SacaSun was only able to deliver 50% of its capacity.

AboitizPower is the country’s largest power generator, based on the latest data from the Department of Energy. It aims to increase its renewable energy portfolio to half of its total generating capacity by 2030.
