AboitizPower’s Naga Power Plant Disconnected from Grid, NGCP Confirms

Power PH – AboitizPower’s Naga Power Plant Disconnected from Grid, NGCP Confirms

Aboitiz Power Corporation’s 44.640 MW Naga Oil-Fired Power Plant and 0.440 MW Black Start Diesel Engine Generating Unit were disconnected from the national grid on March 31, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) confirmed, ending operations at the Naga Power Plant Complex.

AboitizPower disclosed on April 15 that its subsidiary, Therma Power-Visayas, Inc. (TPVI), received a letter from NGCP verifying the disconnection of the facilities located in Barangay Colon, Naga City, Cebu. “On March 31, 2025, the TPVI facilities were completely isolated and disconnected from the grid,” the company disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange..

TPVI, wholly owned by AboitizPower through Therma Power Inc., acquired the Naga Power Plant Complex from Salcon Power Corporation on July 16, 2018. “Since then, TPVI has undertaken extensive rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance of the facility,” the company noted. The plant has served as a backup power source for Cebu’s energy needs.

The acquisition followed a prolonged legal battle, with TPVI securing the 153.1 MW Naga Power Plant Complex after a Supreme Court decision on September 28, 2015, upheld the April 2014 award to TPVI. The Certificate of Effectivity from the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) was issued in May 2018, finalizing the purchase.

AboitizPower did not disclose reasons for the disconnection or future plans for the site. The move follows industry shifts toward renewable energy and more efficient grid operations.
