Aboitiz Renewables Inc. has secured the Final Certificate of Approval to Connect (FCATC) from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for its Calatrava Solar Power Plant in Negros Occidental, confirming the facility’s readiness for commercial operations.
The 137.4 MWac Calatrava plant is now the **largest operating solar and variable renewable energy (VRE) facility in the Visayas**, reinforcing the region’s growing role in the country’s clean energy transition.
“This milestone adds significant capacity to the grid, helps electricity suppliers meet their Renewable Portfolio Standards obligations, and is another step forward for the country as far as our nationwide energy transition objectives are concerned,” said Jimmy Villaroman, President of Aboitiz Renewables.
Located in San Isidro, Calatrava, the plant was completed with close coordination from the NGCP. “We appreciate NGCP for working closely with us to bring this project online, and helping us progress our humble mission to deliver affordable, reliable, clean energy to customers,” Villaroman said.
The facility’s integration into the grid aligns with national efforts to scale up renewable energy, while also supporting local power availability in Negros Occidental and the broader Visayas grid.
Aboitiz Renewables is also preparing to energize two more solar facilities in Luzon. The 95%-complete Olongapo Solar Power Plant is slated for testing and commissioning in Q3 2025, while construction continues on the San Manuel Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan. Both projects will connect to NGCP substations and further boost the company’s renewable energy footprint.
“The successful grid integration of Calatrava SPP, alongside these upcoming projects, highlights Aboitiz Renewables’ momentum in contributing to the country’s renewable energy growth,” Villaroman added.
