Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), showcased its innovative geothermal and battery storage technologies at the 6th Philippine International Geothermal Conference (PIGC6) held in Makati City, spotlighting the company’s commitment to operational efficiency and clean energy innovation.
The event highlighted two of ARI’s key projects: the Overhauling Reduction Days Program, which shortens plant maintenance time through Agile project management, and the Bay Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project, the country’s first geothermal and battery hybrid system.
Engr. Rommel Austria, Senior Manager for Central Maintenance Services, presented the Overhauling Reduction Days Program, which applies Agile methodologies — a project management framework that breaks work into sprints — to enhance the performance and reliability of geothermal plants.
“By combining strategy through Agile method, structure, and agility, we’re not only enhancing our operations — we’re ensuring a power system that is more resilient, responsive, and future-ready to deliver reliable and sustainable energy for our customers,” Austria said.
Meanwhile, Engr. Joerex Delgaco, Production Manager, discussed the Bay BESS Project in Laguna, which will integrate battery energy storage with APRI’s Makban geothermal plant. Once operational, it will serve as the first-ever geothermal-battery hybrid system in the Philippines, capable of providing quick energy support to the Luzon Grid during peak demand and power disruptions.
“Through the Bay BESS Project, we are combining battery technology with geothermal power to strengthen grid stability,” Delgaco said. “This means our consumers can count on a more reliable and steady supply of clean energy, especially during peak demand or unexpected disruptions.”
Ireneo “Irene” Itoses, First Vice President and General Manager for ARI’s Geothermal Business Unit, said both projects reflect the company’s long-term goal of driving innovation and sustainability across its renewable portfolio.
“Our projects, like the Overhauling Reduction Days Program and the Bay BESS Project, reflect our mission to deliver innovation with purpose as we help power the nation’s progress,” Itoses said.
Aboitiz Renewables holds investments in geothermal, solar, hydro, wind, and battery energy storage projects, positioning itself as a key player in advancing the country’s renewable energy future.
