Aboitiz Power Corporation, through subsidiary PV Sinag Power Inc., has partnered with Chinese Firm SUMEC Complete Equipment and Engineering Co. and local company Hansei Corporation as its engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors for its 159 megawatt-peak Laoag and Laoag 2 solar power project in Aguilar, Pangasinan.
The solar project will consist of two phases. SUMEC Engineering will be in charge of developing the direct current phase development, while Hansei will take care of the alternating current installation.
Located 14 kilometers from AboitizPower’s Cayanga solar project in neighboring Bugallon, the Laoag project is the company’s second solar venture in Pangasinan.
Slated for commercial operations in June 2023, the plant is expected to generate 261 gigawatt-hours of power, which can power 100,000 average households a year. Majority of the plant’s output is already contracted for 20 years to a leading retail company in the country.
“This project is proof that AboitizPower is well underway in terms of our renewable energy growth ambitions. We look forward to its completion so we can continue to serve our country’s growing needs with zero-emissions renewable energy, and contribute to achieving a sustainable energy transition,” AboitizPower President and CEO Emmanuel Rubio said in a statement.
AboitizPower, the country’s largest power generating company, is looking to develop 721 megawatts of renewable energy projects in its portfolio in the next three years. Around Php28 billion in capital expenditures were set by the company to fund its projects this year.
