The Office of the President has named Atty. Monalisa Carneo Dimalanta as the new Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson.
Dimalanta was Aboitiz Power Corporation’s Compliance Officer prior to the appointment. The appointment papers were released by the Office of the President on Wednesday, August 3 based on a Manila Bulletin report.
Dimalanta chaired the National Renewable Energy Board (NREB) from 2019 to 2021. Together with the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Management Bureau, she firmed up the National Renewable Energy Plan, which would cement the country’s transition to renewable energy (RE).
Under her leadership, NREB helped in the establishment of the Green Energy Auction Program – where 19 firms were recently awarded and expected to deliver 2,000 megawatts (MW) of RE capacity.
Before joining NREB, Dimalanta served as a senior partner in the Puyat Jacinto & Santos law firm, where she also headed its energy practice until March 2019.
Dimalanta is a graduate of the University of the Philippines with bachelor’s degrees in law and journalism. She also holds a Masters of Laws degree from the University of Michigan and completed the Senior Fellowship Programme at the National University of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
Dimalanta is the second appointee in the energy sector from Aboitiz Power. Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla also served as the independent director of the energy firm prior to the appointment.
