ACEN Corp. has confirmed today that it is exploring a new wind power development in Tayabas, Quezon, with a proposed investment of PHP 34.5 billion for the 247-megawatt (MW) Banahaw Wind Power Project.
In a PSE disclosure filed on August 28, the Ayala-led energy firm said the project is part of efforts to expand its wind portfolio in Quezon but emphasized that it remains in the “very early stages of pre-development” and that “no investment decision has been made to date.”
The project, to be undertaken by ACEN subsidiary GigaWind4, Inc., was outlined in documents submitted to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Covering 10 barangays across 4,536 hectares, the wind farm would involve the installation of 38 turbines, each rated at 6.5 MW.
GigaWind4 noted in its filing that “the proposal for the 247-MW wind farm represents a strategic initiative” that would align with the Philippines’ renewable energy goals, strengthen the power mix, and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
“The Banahaw Wind Power Project is not only a significant endeavor in advancing renewable energy, but it also holds great potential to address regional needs and bring about positive socio-economic changes,” the company said in its DENR filing.
According to the filing, construction could take two years, with full operations expected within five years. However, ACEN clarified that timelines remain tentative pending further evaluation.
In a separate disclosure also dated August 28, ACEN reported that its board of directors approved an equity infusion of USD 55 million (about PHP 3.1 billion) into ACEN Renewables International Pte. Ltd. and/or ACEN International, Inc., alongside an additional PHP 1.5 billion for the 300-megawatt Palauig 2 Solar Project in Zambales.
The company reports that it currently has 7 gigawatts of attributable renewable energy capacity across the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Laos, and the United States, with wind projects forming a growing part of its regional portfolio.
