ACEN Corporation, the Ayala Group’s listed energy platform, has continued with its renewable energy presence in North Luzon with the launch of the 133-megawatt Cagayan North Solar project in Lal-lo, Cagayan.

Developed in partnership with CleanTech Renewable Energy 4 Corp., this solar farm is the first utility-scale renewable energy facility in the entire province and is expected to generate around 188 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This is equivalent to powering around 45,000 households while also offsetting an estimated 128,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

ACEN President and CEO Eric Francia stressed the project’s strategic value. “Cagayan North Solar is the first renewable energy project in Cagayan supplying clean power to the Luzon grid. As demand for electricity continues to grow, this project plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s energy supply through reliable and sustainable generation,” he said.

Beyond its environmental impact, the project also delivers many social and economic benefits. During construction, it created around 1,000 job opportunities. ACEN and CleanTech have partnered with the local government to implement community development initiatives, including a PHP14-million investment to construct Bical National High School and PHP4 million worth of multipurpose gymnasiums in Barangays Magapit and Sta. Maria.

CleanTech Global Renewables, Inc. President and CEO Salvador Antonio Castro Jr. emphasized that the project is more than just a power source. “It’s a symbol of progress… For host communities, it means new jobs, better infrastructure, and a sustainable future,” he stated.

Outgoing Lal-lo Mayor Florante Pascual also expressed support, calling the project a reflection of the town’s commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth.

Cagayan North Solar is 60% owned by ACEN and 40% by CleanTech. It forms part of ACEN’s broader goal to reach 100% renewable energy generation by 2025 and achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050.
