ACEN Corporation has officially commissioned its first solar facility in Pangasinan, marking a major step in expanding the company’s renewable energy footprint in Northern Luzon.
The 60-megawatt San Manuel Solar project, developed following ACEN’s acquisition of Sinocalan Solar Power Corp. in December 2022, features 108,752 ground-mounted photovoltaic panels. It is expected to generate around 94 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to power approximately 55,000 households—and avoid over 58,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The solar farm is directly connected to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines through a 1.8-kilometer transmission line linked to the 69-kilovolt San Manuel Substation, ensuring efficient delivery of renewable energy to the grid.
“San Manuel Solar forms part of ACEN’s strategic expansion following the company’s acquisition of Sinocalan Solar Power Corp. in December 2022,” the company said in a statement.
Beyond energy production, ACEN is also pursuing social impact programs in host communities. Through initiatives such as Brigada Eskwela and Brigada Pagbasa in partnership with the Department of Education, ACEN has refurbished schools, provided learning materials, and strengthened literacy programs in Pangasinan.
The project aligns with the Philippine government’s renewable energy target of 35% in the power generation mix by 2030, reinforcing efforts to accelerate the country’s transition to low-carbon energy while supporting local energy security
ACEN, the Ayala Group’s listed energy platform, currently has about 7 gigawatts of attributable renewable energy capacity across the Asia Pacific, with operations in the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, India, and Lao PDR, and strategic investments in Indonesia. The company aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
