Alternergy clears grid hurdle for all GEA-4 projects

Alternergy Holdings Corporation has secured a key regulatory milestone for its Green Energy Auction 4 (GEA-4) portfolio, after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) approved the System Impact Study (SIS) for all five renewable energy projects it won under the auction.

The approvals cover Alternergy’s full GEA-4 lineup spanning solar and wind developments across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, signaling that the transmission system can accommodate the additional capacity once these projects move into construction and operations.

“The NGCP approval of the SIS is a significant step to move our projects forward. It confirms the grid’s capability and readiness to accommodate and integrate our projects into the system,” Alternergy president Gerry P. Magbanua said. “We appreciate NGCP’s continued support.”

For GEA-4 winners, the SIS is a critical post-auction requirement, as it assesses the impact of new generating capacity on the grid and identifies any necessary upgrades. Alternergy said the completion of this step allowed it to submit all required post-auction documents to the Department of Energy (DOE), effectively clearing a major development bottleneck.

“With the NGCP SIS approvals, we are pleased to note that we have successfully submitted to the DOE the post-auction requirements,” Magbanua said, adding that the company is now preparing to start development works.

Under GEA-4, Alternergy secured five projects with a combined potential capacity of up to 500 megawatts. These include the Liberty Solar Floating Projects Phase A and Phase B in Luzon, the Kalandagan Solar Power Project with Battery Energy Storage System in Mindanao, the Tayabas North Wind Energy Project in Luzon, and the Alegria Wind Power Project in the Visayas.

The GEA-4 projects form part of Alternergy’s next development pipeline and support its “One Green Gigawatt by 2030” target. The company is also advancing several other projects slated for completion between late 2025 and early 2026 as part of its broader capacity expansion roadmap.
