Alternergy Holdings Corporation has secured a land lease agreement with the Philippine National Railways (PNR) for the development of a switching station for its 64-megawatt (MW) Alabat Wind Power Project in Barangay Hondagua, Lopez, Quezon.

In a report by the Manila Bulletin, Alternergy revealed that its subsidiary, Alabat Wind Power Corp. (APWC), will utilize PNR property to build an electrical facility needed for the wind power project.

PNR General Manager Deovanni S. Miranda voiced his support for the collaboration, highlighting its alignment with national renewable energy goals. He emphasized that the project would help contribute to the government’s renewable energy targets, while also supporting PNR’s sustainability objectives.

Alternergy President Gerry P. Magbanua expressed confidence in the project’s progress, stating that with PNR as one of their land lease partners, they are driving renewable energy growth in the country.

The P7-billion wind power project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

In April, APWC signed an interconnection agreement with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to transmit the wind farm’s renewable energy capacity via the 69-kilovolt (kV) Hondagua transmission line.

Earlier, the project was granted a Certificate of Confirmation of Commerciality (CoCoC) by the Department of Energy (DOE) and secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (GEDI).
