Alternergy Holdings Corporation is expanding its presence in the Visayas as it moves to acquire the Alegria Cebu Wind Power Project, an up to 80-megawatt development that recently secured a winning bid under the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Fourth Green Energy Auction. The project will become Alternergy’s first wind installation in the Visayas Grid and will contribute to the company’s long-term renewable capacity targets.
In its disclosure, Alternergy said its wind investment arm, Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation, will acquire a 95 percent equity stake in MC Project Solutions Inc. (MCPSI), which is the developer of the Alegria Cebu project covered by Wind Energy Service Contract No. 2024-05-402. The wind initiative, currently in pre-development, has a committed delivery date in late 2028 and an estimated capacity ranging from at least 56 MW up to 80 MW.
Alternergy President Gerry P. Magbanua said the move supports the company’s continued expansion as it pushes toward its long-term goal of One Green Gigawatt by 2030. “We are excited to develop our first wind project in Cebu which marks a significant step in expanding our renewable energy portfolio into the Visayas Grid,” he said. “The acquisition of the Alegria Cebu Wind Project will contribute to accomplishing ALTER’s goal of reaching a total energy capacity of renewable energy projects of One Green Gigawatt (1GW) by 2030.”
MC Project Solutions CEO Pedro Pascual welcomed the partnership, pointing to Alternergy’s experience in the sector. “Given the track record of Alternergy in wind project development, we are pleased to collaborate with Alternergy in developing the first wind energy undertaking on the island of Cebu,” he said.
The acquisition aligns with Alternergy’s broader development pipeline, which includes wind, run-of-river hydro, solar, commercial rooftop, battery storage, and offshore wind initiatives. The company also highlighted its ongoing construction activities, its listing milestones at the Philippine Stock Exchange, and recent recognitions such as becoming the first PSE-listed firm to receive a Green Equity Label from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Alternergy said the addition of the Cebu wind project strengthens its position as it pursues further renewable energy growth through the Green Energy Auction Program and its long-term expansion roadmap.
