Philippine companies and energy advocates are gaining regional traction for projects that directly address one of the sector’s most immediate concerns: managing energy costs and system efficiency amid volatile fuel prices and rising demand.
At the 2025 ASEAN Energy Awards, held on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in Kuala Lumpur, several Philippine firms were recognized for building- and operations-level initiatives that delivered measurable efficiency improvements—areas increasingly viewed by utilities, corporates, and regulators as frontline tools for energy security.
Several Philippine companies were cited for strengthening energy efficiency in buildings and operations, including Globe Telecom, Inc., which was recognized for deploying advanced technologies that improved energy performance across its facilities, and Solaris One, which was acknowledged for energy-conscious building design and operational strategies that support efficient resource use.
Energy management practices were also recognized beyond large corporations. Tagum Water Company, Inc. earned regional recognition for initiatives that enhanced its energy management systems and delivered measurable efficiency improvements within its operations.
In the power and mining sector, Semirara Mining and Power Corporation received recognition under the corporate social responsibility category of the ASEAN Coal Awards, highlighting community-focused initiatives implemented alongside its operations.
“These recognitions affirm that Philippine organizations and advocates are delivering real, practical innovation — from smarter buildings and stronger energy management systems to youth-led communications that build wider public understanding,” Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said. “Energy efficiency and conservation remain among the most immediate and cost-effective ways to strengthen energy security and reduce consumer exposure to volatile fuel costs.”
The Philippines also secured awards at the individual and youth levels, spotlighting the role of leadership and public engagement in energy transition efforts. Former DOE Assistant Director Artemio P. Habitan was recognized for sustained leadership in advancing energy management practices, while two Filipino youth advocates were cited for creative works that promote clean energy awareness and responsible energy use.
The ASEAN Energy Awards, led by the ASEAN Centre for Energy, recognize implementable solutions that improve system performance and support the region’s transition toward a lower-emissions energy future.
The Philippines will chair AMEM and the Awards in 2026.
How can these award-winning energy efficiency practices be expanded nationwide to deliver broader benefits for consumers and industries?
