Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) consumers can expect higher electricity rates in April due to higher charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), bringing the total increase to P10.5594 per kWh this month from last month’s P10.4961 per kWh.
A typical household consuming 200 kWh will have an upward adjustment of P0.0633 per kWh.
Despite lower charges rates from the Power Supply Agreements (PSAs), WESM charges increased by P 1.2815 per kWh due to tighter supply conditions in the Luzon grid, which was put under Yellow Alert on March 5, 7, and 9 due to shortage in operating reserves.
The generation charge from April also went up to P5.6322 per kWh from March’s P5.5973 per kWh.
Independent Power Producers’ (IPPs) cost of power also increased by P0.0881 per kWh due to weakening Peso against US Dollar.
Meanwhile, the Feed-In Tariff Allowance (FIT-All) was decreased by P0.0337 per kWh , which was earlier approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Other charges such as transmission charges, taxes, and other charges increased by P0.0458 per kWh.
