Basic Energy to Explore Three New Renewable Projects in Visayas and Mindanao

Basic Energy Corporation has secured board approval to proceed with three additional renewable energy projects as part of its continuing efforts to expand its clean energy portfolio.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchnage, the company said that one of the upcoming projects will be located in Mindanao, while the other two are set to be developed in Visayas. All three initiatives are currently in the exploratory phase.

The energy firm confirmed that it will begin the necessary steps to validate and obtain approval for the projects from relevant government agencies. While specific details have not yet been disclosed, Basic Energy assured that further updates will be released once significant progress is made or material agreements are signed.

The new projects are seen as a complement to Basic Energy’s existing ventures in the renewable energy sector, aligning with the company’s broader sustainability goals.

In a recent development, the company announced it has received the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Certificate of Authority (COA) for its proposed Bolinao Solar Power Project in Pangasinan. The certificate grants the company the right to move forward with permitting and land tenure processes for the renewable energy facility.

The COA was issued under the DOE’s revised Omnibus Guidelines Governing the Award and Administration of Renewable Energy Contracts. It marks a key step toward formalizing the company’s Solar Energy Operating Contract (SEOC), which will span 25 years.

Located on a 37-hectare site in Bolinao, the planned solar farm is projected to deliver at least 47 megawatts peak (MWp) of power. This estimate is based on a preliminary study by an independent firm.

With the COA in place, Basic Energy will now begin coordinating with national agencies and local government units to secure additional approvals. This includes conducting a System Impact Study for submission to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

The Bolinao Solar Power Project is slated for completion and commissioning by early 2027. It is expected to support the Philippines’ broader renewable energy goals.
