BDO Unibank, Inc. has entered into a strategic partnership with Vietnam’s Vingroup JSC to finance the country’s first all-electric taxi fleet and accelerate electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure rollout in the Philippines.
The bank is providing end-to-end banking services to three subsidiaries: VinFast Auto Philippines Inc., the EV manufacturer; V-Green Charging Station Development Philippines Inc., the charging network developer; and Green and Smart Mobility Philippines Inc. (Green GSM), operator of the taxi fleet.
“At VinFast, we view sustainable transportation as more than just a technological shift—it’s a commitment to future generations,” said Duong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing at VinFast. “Partnering with BDO, a trusted and forward-thinking financial institution, allows us to empower Filipinos with greater access to EVs while helping shape a smarter, greener, and more livable urban future.”
V-Green has secured approvals to establish EV charging stations in four SM Supermalls, with expansion planned across the BDO–SM network. “Charging infrastructure is essential for sustainable EV growth,” said Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green. “By partnering with BDO, we can fast-track the deployment of convenient and reliable charging solutions that make EV use more practical and scalable across the Philippines.”
Green GSM, which operates the VinFast-powered taxi fleet, integrated with BDO’s digital banking platform in June 2025 to automate payments and streamline driver onboarding. “Our mission is to deliver cleaner, safer, and more sustainable public transport,” said Green GSM CEO Dao Quy Phi. “Our partnership with BDO strengthens our driver-partner support and enables sustainable fleet expansion. It also lays the foundation to help the Philippines in reducing emissions and modernizing urban transportation.”
BDO executives said the bank’s involvement demonstrates how financial institutions can play a critical role in advancing sustainable mobility by bridging capital, infrastructure, and operations.
The initiative positions BDO at the center of the Philippines’ early-stage EV ecosystem, linking vehicle supply, charging networks, and public transport modernization under a single financing framework.
Will the combination of EV fleets and mall-based charging hubs finally push Filipino commuters and operators to adopt electric vehicles at scale? Share your thoughts.
