Basic Energy Corporation (BEC) has expanded its project pipeline by securing the approval of the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Wind Energy Service Contract (WESC) of the Balayan Nearshore Wind Power Project
The project is located around one kilometer east of Calatagan, Batangas.
Having obtained the approval and signing of the WESC, BEC will initiate the deployment of its resources for the wind resource assessment campaign, aimed at validating the wind regime within the designated area.
Under the WESC, Basic Energy Corporation is granted the right to develop, utilize, and explore wind energy resources within a 2,835-hectare contracted area.
The project aims to generate 140-168 megawatts (MW) and is expected to determine its commercial viability within the first 5 years during the pre-development stage of the service contract.
BEC’s wind portfolio, comprising the current Mabini and Panay WESCs along with the newly added Balayan project, is estimated to reach 350-400 MW.
Earlier, BEC is looking to establish an onshore wind facility in San Joaquin and Miag-ao in Iloilo, and Hamtic, Antique, producing a total capacity of 155-MW. The facility would engulf 13,932 hectares of land, spanning 172 renewable energy (RE) blocks.
As BEC builds a robust renewable energy (RE) portfolio, it anticipates securing service contracts for its other RE project prospects in the near future.
