Berde Renewables, Inc. has expanded its renewable energy partnership with Holcim Philippines by increasing the solar capacity at Holcim’s Davao City and Lugait, Misamis Oriental facilities to 12.79 megawatt peak (MWp), aiming to cut carbon emissions by 14,000 metric tons annually.

The expanded partnership will see Berde Renewables manage the design, construction, and operation of additional solar installations at new Holcim sites. Apart from increasing the facilities’ combined solar capacity, the project will also generate around 21,263 megawatt hours of renewable energy annually, which supports Holcim’s target of reducing Scope 2 emissions by 65% by 2030.

Patrick Zhu, CEO of Berde Renewables, expressed pride in the continued collaboration. “Being selected once again through a highly competitive process is a testament to Berde’s proven track record and the trust that Holcim Philippines places in our expertise,” Zhu said. “We are truly honored to extend our partnership and work together to accelerate the Philippines’ transition to renewable energy.”

Nicolas George, CEO of Holcim Philippines, also emphasized the importance of the partnership. “Berde Renewables’ exceptional track record, proven through their re-selection in a highly competitive process, makes them an indispensable partner in advancing our sustainability goals,” George said. “This partnership is pivotal in reducing our environmental impact and accelerating the Philippines’ shift to renewable energy.”

Berde Renewables, a distributed energy platform of I Squared Capital, first partnered with Holcim Philippines in 2023, through a power purchase agreement, involving solar rooftop projects on Holcim’s facilities in Bulacan and La Union.

The rooftop solar facilities, built, operated, and maintained by Berde Renewables, was commissioned in 2024.  They have a combined capacity of 5.5 MWp and an annual generation of approximately 7.8 GWh, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5,500 tCo2e per year.

As Holcim and Berde Renewables push forward with their shared vision, the expanded solar capacity demonstrates a strong commitment to integrating clean energy solutions into industrial operations. This collaboration reflects a broader shift in the energy sector towards sustainability and resilience.
