Berde Renewables, Inc. , through joint venture Berde PSS, has secured a landmark 30-megawatt solar contract in Thailand, marking a major step in its ASEAN expansion and its growing focus on clean energy for educational institutions.
The project combines 20 MW of floating solar and 10 MW of ground-mounted systems, making it one of the largest university-linked renewable energy installations in the region.
Berde Renewables Co-founder and Group CEO Morris Zhou said the project underscores Thailand’s rising demand for distributed and utility-scale solar and demonstrates Berde’s ability to deliver complex, dual-format installations.
“We started with 20 MW of operating assets, added 30 MW ready to build, and recently won a 30 MW contract with a university,” Zhou said. “It includes 20 MW floating and 10 MW ground-mount.”
From rooftops to floating solar
Berde entered Thailand in 2023 through the acquisition of a 20-megawatt rooftop solar portfolio from Power System and Solutions (PSS). The move created Berde PSS, a joint venture where Berde holds 75 percent and PSS 25 percent.
From its initial assets, Berde rapidly expanded to nearly 50 MW of rooftop and ground-mounted systems by the end of the first year. The new university project, Zhou said, represents a natural evolution of Berde’s distributed generation model into larger institutional partnerships.
Thailand has become Berde’s second key market after the Philippines.
The company is replicating its zero-capex, long-term offtake model for commercial and institutional customers there, while also pursuing 50- to 200-MW utility-scale projects.
Through Berde PSS, the company manages operations, engineering, and asset management locally while keeping governance and investment decisions centralized in its Manila headquarters.
