With over 140 attendees, the Berde Renewables Collaboration Summit 2025 spotlighted decentralized energy, cross-sector collaboration, and the Philippines’ growing leadership in renewable energy investment.
Held at Makati Shangri-La, the summit convened energy executives, government officials, digital infrastructure leaders, and financial institutions to advance Distributed Energy Resources (DER)—including rooftop solar, battery storage, and smart grid systems—across Southeast Asia.
“We are stronger together,” said Patrick Zhu, Co-founder and President of Berde Renewables Inc., in his opening remarks. “This summit is just the beginning. The stakes are too high to stand alone. Together, we will build greener futures.”
Participants from the energy, finance, telecommunications, real estate, EPC, and insurance sectors echoed that call, reinforcing the need for collaborative action to scale distributed energy solutions and future-proof the region’s grid infrastructure.
Guido Delgado, Chairman of GAA Delgado Inc., urged stakeholders to decentralize power generation in light of widespread outages across Asia and Latin America. “DERs are key to building a secure, resilient, and sustainable energy future. The solution is to bring power to the people,” Delgado said.
Atty. Bobby Fondevilla, Executive Director of the Investment Assistance Center of the Board of Investments (BOI), reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to clean energy growth. He highlighted fiscal incentives for DER projects under the Strategic Investment Priorities Plan, describing the country as “strategically positioned to be a regional hub for sustainability-driven industries.”
From the policy side, Edward Neri, Officer-in-Charge of the DOE’s Solar Energy Management Group, shared updates on the Philippine Energy Plan 2023–2050, which targets a renewable energy share of over 50% by 2050. He emphasized the role of expanded roof-mounted solar programs in supporting energy self-reliance.
Meralco FVP and Head of Networks Engr. Froilan Savet discussed the importance of intelligent DER integration into the grid. “Every new DER connection must strengthen, not strain, the grid. With AI and smart technologies, we’re building a system that is decentralized, but also stable and secure,” he said.
Representing the technology sector, Milan Zabat of Huawei Philippines highlighted advances in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and grid-forming inverters. He emphasized the importance of system safety and control features to ensure reliability as DER penetration grows.
Morris Zhou, Co-founder of Berde Renewables, closed the summit with a call to action: “Collaboration is not just desirable, it is essential. Across sectors and borders, I see alignment. Let us build it side by side. Let us help you bring it to life.”
Beyond a venue for knowledge exchange, the Berde Summit functioned as a launchpad for joint action, highlighting DER as a cornerstone of resilient, inclusive, and locally anchored energy systems.
