In collaboration with local joint venture partners, Blueleaf Energy Philippines is embarking on an ambitious plan to develop a floating solar portfolio totaling approximately 1.5 gigawatts (GW) in Laguna.
Leading the NKS Solar One project is the 250MW utility-scale floating solar initiative, set to be located in Caliraya and Lumot Lakes in Laguna.
After winning the Department of Energy’s (DOE) second round of the Green Energy Auction Program in 2023, this project is scheduled to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2024 and is targeted to come online by the first quarter of 2026.
Blueleaf Energy Philippines also plans to co-develop BlueSolar, a massive 1.3GW floating solar facility on Laguna Lake, through a joint venture with SunAsia.
In August 2023, the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) and project partners formalized a Renewable Energy Contract Area Utilization Agreement encompassing 10 blocks of 100 hectares each across various towns including Cabuyao, Sta. Rosa, Calamba, Victoria, and Bay.
Both projects are poised to boost Luzon’s grid capacity and contribute substantially towards the Philippines’ renewable energy targets.
Chris Chua, President of Blueleaf Energy Philippines, expressed the company’s vision to accelerate the country’s energy transition with innovative renewable energy solutions aimed at achieving a net-zero future.
Rafael Macabiog, Head of Projects, emphasized the use of existing reservoirs like Caliraya and Lumot, initially intended for power generation, in the NKS Solar One project. This approach optimizes land use and boosts renewable energy potential in man-made water bodies.
