Northern Mindanao is taking big steps towards a greener future, as the region plays host to the “Mindanao Goes Solar Expo 2025”, a multi-day event that brought together key players in the solar energy sector from June 5 to 8 and held at Ayala Centrio Mall’s Activity Center.
The expo, as reported by Sunstar, served as a launching platform to advance conversations around renewable energy in Northern Mindanao, with stakeholders from government, industry, and local communities rallying behind the common goal of accelerating the island’s transition to solar power.
Set against the backdrop of an ever-rising national demand for clean energy and supply. The event showcased learning sessions, technical panels, and exhibits aimed at raising public awareness about the benefits of solar technology and encouraging a wider adoption across the region.
According to a post on Facebook by Mindanao Goes Solar Movement, the Department of Energy (DOE) has stated that the island is expected to gain an additional 232 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity in 2025. This development signals a growing confidence in solar as a viable solution for energy security and sustainability in the region.
Throughout the expo, attendees explored a wide range of topics including policy updates, best practices in solar installation, and investment opportunities. The event was especially focused on the so-called “Big Switch to Solar,” which advocates for stronger public-private collaboration and community engagement in building out solar infrastructure.
Cagayan de Oro, one of Northern Mindanao’s key economic hubs, played a central role as host city. Its selection highlighted the importance of localized efforts in achieving broader energy goals, and further positioned the city as a leader in the region’s clean energy movement.
The “Mindanao Goes Solar” initiative marks a steadily growing momentum for renewable energy adoption in the country’s southern regions. Organizers of the event are hopeful that events like this will inspire stronger participation and long-term investment in the transition to sustainable power.
