Citadines Bacolod to run on geothermal power via First Gen Deal

Citadines Bacolod City has sealed an agreement with First Gen Corporation to shift its entire hotel operations to renewable energy, marking one of the most significant clean energy adoptions in Bacolod’s hospitality sector.

The deal, signed September 16, covers the supply of 800 kilowatts (kW) of geothermal power to run the 200-room hotel and its facilities, including restaurants, business lounges, meeting spaces, and a grand ballroom. The renewable supply will be sourced from the Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plant, operated by Energy Development Corporation (EDC), a First Gen subsidiary.

“As part of The Ascott Limited, we are committed to upholding sustainability through eco-friendly operations and efficient energy consumption,” said Caleb Han, General Manager of Citadines Bacolod City. “Our partnership with First Gen allows Citadines Bacolod City to be powered by renewable energy, helping us reduce both our energy intensity and carbon footprint,”

First Gen said geothermal power offers round-the-clock baseload capacity, making it a reliable renewable option for large-scale facilities.

“It is our privilege to partner with Citadines Bacolod City as they advance their decarbonization journey. Transitioning to renewable energy and reducing carbon intensity is achievable for any business, and we remain committed to supporting our partners in optimizing their energy use,” said Arlene Sy Soriano, First Gen’s Head of Sales and Engagement.

EDC operates 1,200 megawatts (MW) of geothermal capacity, making First Gen the world’s largest vertically integrated geothermal company. Its renewable portfolio also includes more than 400 MW of hydro, wind, and solar capacity. In addition, First Gen and Prime Infrastructure Capital operate 2,017 MW of natural gas plants to back up intermittent renewable supply and support energy security.
