Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) has been recognized with a Silver Anvil Award by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) for its Citicore AgroSolar Initiative, underscoring the company’s exceptional contributions to sustainability and community development.

The 60th Anvil Awards recognized CREC’s AgroSolar Initiative as an outstanding public relations program in sustainability communications.

Launched in 2021, the AgroSolar initiative has demonstrated its capacity to enhance local agricultural production while promoting renewable energy. By 2022, the project yielded 3,735 kilograms of high-value crops such as turmeric, arugula, and French beans.

In 2023, the initiative achieved another milestone with the harvest of 7,000 kilograms of napa cabbages, 1,500 kilograms of eggplants, and 500 kilograms of red and green chilis. The cumulative harvest now exceeds 12,700 kilograms.

The program aligns with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), including Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Sustainable Communities (SDG 11).

What sets the AgroSolar Initiative apart is its innovative dual-purpose land use. CREC utilizes the same land for solar power generation and agricultural production, allowing farmers to grow crops alongside solar panels. This pioneering approach sustains agricultural livelihoods while advancing the renewable energy sector.

The program’s success is deeply rooted in its engagement with local communities. Small crop growers are integral to the initiative’s design and implementation, fostering a collaborative environment that benefits both CREC and the farmers.

Because of this, partner farmers have seen significant income growth through the initiative, as local off-takers purchase crops directly at farm-gate prices, ensuring fair profit margins for producers.

Proceeds from crop sales also support various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects under the Citicore Foundation, creating a positive ripple effect within the community.

The initiative highlights CREC’s proactive response to pressing societal issues, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable development and innovative energy solutions.
