Cebu-based retailer Prince Warehouse Inc. has partnered with COREnergy, the retail electricity supplier arm of Vivant Energy, to supply power to one of its facilities in Sogod, Cebu, as more businesses take advantage of expanded electricity choice under market reforms.
The collaboration allows the retail chain to source electricity through a licensed retail electricity supplier, enabling it to manage power procurement alongside operational and cost considerations.
The move comes as more commercial and industrial customers gain access to alternative suppliers under the Philippines’ Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework. Recent policy developments lowered the eligibility threshold for contestable customers to 100 kilowatts (kW) peak demand, expanding the number of businesses that can procure electricity outside their franchised distribution utilities.
“To remain relevant and responsive to our customers, we continue to rethink how we operate. Energy plays a critical role in keeping our stores efficient and resilient,” said Blake Nelson Go, Vice President for Business Development and Finance of Prince Warehouse, Inc. “Partnering with COREnergy allows us to make more informed energy decisions that support our growth, while maintaining reliable service for our customers.”
Prince Warehouse operates retail stores nationwide. The company said the partnership forms part of efforts to improve operational efficiency while supporting sustainability objectives through more strategic energy sourcing.
COREnergy provides supply arrangements to contestable customers seeking flexibility in how they procure electricity, including options that align with operational planning and long-term energy management.
With the contestable threshold now at 100 kW, more businesses can choose their electricity supplier. Will this shift significantly change how commercial establishments manage power costs and reliability in the Philippines? Share your thoughts.
