The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of PHP 3.627 billion to fund the country’s expanded rural electrification efforts for 2025. This is in line with the Marcos administration’s goal of achieving nationwide access to electricity by 2028.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandam

an announ ced the budget release in support of the National Electrification Administration’s (NEA) Strategized Rural Electrification and Operational Reliability program. The program aims to bring electricity to remote communities and improve the operational efficiency of existing power lines.

Of the total amount, PHP 3.439 billion is earmarked for the Sitio Electrification Program, which seeks to energize 1,752 sitios and five barangays across th

e country. Another PHP68.839 million will go to the Barangay Line Enhancement Program to strengthen power distribution infrastructure. The remaining PHP120 million will be used to purchase and distribute 4,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) units for off-grid and geographically isolated communities.

Secretary Pangandaman emphasized that expanding electricity access in rural areas will help improve lives and stimulate local economies. She also noted that electrification efforts are essential in fulfilling President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to expand internet connectivity in remote schools and communities.

7, the NEA has successfully energized 9,645 sitios. An additional 9,622 sitios are expected to be connected to the grid by the end of the Marcos administration’s term in 2028.
