Consunji-led DMCI Power Corporation (DPC), an off-grid energy solutions company, is looking at a Php 745 million fresh investment to augment the power supply to brownout-stricken Masbate Province.
In a report by the Manila Bulletin, DMCI Power said that the investment involves an 11-megawatt (MW) generating facility, which will boost Masbate’s power supply by 21%.
DMCI Power was able to launch the operations of its three-megawatt (MW) diesel plant in Pio V. Corpuz last November 4. Meanwhile, its eight-megawatt diesel power generating facility in Cataingan is undergoing final testing and commissioning, and the target commercial operation date is mid-December this year.
DMCI Power president Antonio Gatdula Jr said that these investments are “in line with their commitment to providing adequate, reliable and dependable power supply in missionary areas.”
Data from DMCI Power states that energy sales in Masbate grew by as much as 11% to 111 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in the past nine months of the year, as compared to last year’s 100 GWh.
For 2023, Gatdula said that DMCI Power is looking to add solar energy to its portfolio. A four-megawatt (MW) solar plant in Masbate is slated to commence operations by the first quarter.
DMCI Power was established in 2006 to provide sufficient and reliable electricity to areas that are not connected to the main transmission grid. Its off-takers include the electric cooperatives in Masbate, Palawan, and Oriental Mindoro — all of which are part of the Luzon group of islands, but not of the Luzon Grid.
