DOE Calls on Solar PV Installers to Help Solarize All Government Buildings

The Department of Energy (DOE) is pushing for the full solarization of government buildings nationwide and is calling on solar PV installers to support this clean energy initiative.

Speaking at the first General Assembly of DOE-Registered Solar PV Installers held at the Marquis Events Place in Taguig, DOE Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration to meet the country’s solar targets.

“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for renewable energy, but we need your help to make this real. Let us aim for 100% solar installation in all government buildings,” said Undersecretary Fuentebella.

The initiative is expected not only to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions but also to create substantial job opportunities within the renewable energy sector.

The general assembly served as a platform for knowledge sharing, updates on new technologies, policies, and incentives. Topics discussed included the DOE’s Solar PV Registry, policy compliance mechanisms, and the role of installers in aligning their work with existing guidelines.

Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB) Director Patrick T. Aquino addressed the importance of following Department Circular No. 2024-06-0021, which mandates that government agencies must integrate renewable energy and improve energy efficiency in public facilities.

Beyond government buildings, the DOE also reiterated its commitment to expanding electricity access through the deployment of Solar Home Systems (SHS) in remote and off-grid communities. Under the administration’s goal of nationwide electrification by 2028, the National Electrification Administration targets to energize 100,000 households this year, working toward a total of up to 154,000 over the next two years.

The initiative is part of a broader clean energy push led by the EUMB and the Renewable Energy Management Bureau, aimed at streamlining processes and supporting industry growth for a more sustainable Philippines.
