DOE Endorses 17 Power Projects in June, Majority from Renewable Energy

The Department of Energy (DOE) endorsed a total of 17 power generation projects to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in June 2025. This reflects the continued momentum in renewable energy and battery storage development across the country.

According to the DOE’s System Impact Study (SIS) summary, 14 new project applications and 3 amendments were approved during the month. The endorsements include 15 renewable energy projects, which span from wind, solar, hydro, to geothermal technologies, as well as two battery energy storage systems (BESS), one of which is integrated with a solar facility.

Among the largest endorsed projects was CI San Jose Corp.’s 1,246-megawatt Roxas Onshore Wind Power Project in Oriental Mindoro. This is followed by Philippine New Energy Development Inc.’s 500 MW Cebu Wind Energy Project. Other significant projects include Embrace Nature Power1 Corp.’s 180 MW Agrovoltaic Solar Power Project in General Santos City, which features a 96 MW/192 MWh battery storage component, and RE Resources, Inc.’s revised San Manuel Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan with an updated capacity of 92.545 MWP / 69.9 MWAC.

As of the end of June, the DOE has issued a total of 78 SIS endorsements for 2025. These include 63 for renewable energy, 13 for energy storage systems, and two for conventional power projects.

The SIS endorsement process is a critical step for generation companies, as it ensures that proposed projects will not compromise grid reliability once connected to the national transmission system.
