DOE enhances energy efficiency programs

DOE-USAID

The Department of Energy (DOE), in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has launched three digital platforms aimed at promoting the efficient and sustainable use of energy in the Philippines.

Some of these platforms are the City of Energia, its websites Enerhiyang Atin (Our Energy) and Wattmatters, the Designated Establishment Online Submission portal, and the Electric Vehicle Charging Station portal.

In a report by the Philippine Star, the DOE went into leveraging emerging technological advancements to promote environmental awareness and the financial advantages of energy-efficient practices and technologies.

DOE Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella said they’re amplifying their demand and knowledge sharing for their customers and are now utilizing information and communications technologies.

Furthermore, the DOE stated that each platform aligns with USAID’s digital strategy and utilizes technology innovations to contribute towards the development of a more energy-efficient and secure energy sector.

The City of Energia mobile application, together with its website counterparts Enerhiyang Atin and Wattmatters, acts as the nation’s first energy efficiency virtual showroom, aiming to inform the public about useful energy efficiency techniques and systems suitable to each industry.

Meanwhile, the electric vehicle charging station portal will provide support for the identification, consolidation, and regulation of all-electric vehicle charging station operators and applicants. Its main goal is to ensure an efficient, safe, and standardized electric vehicle sector.

The DOE online portal, meanwhile, will facilitate the submission of compliance requirements of the businesses in the commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors.

The USAID Philippines environment officer director, Ryder Rogers, expressed enthusiasm for the current state of the energy sector, describing it as an exciting time. Rogers eagerly anticipates significant advancements and benefits resulting from these innovations, as they aim to enhance and streamline business operations.

The DOE online site, meanwhile, makes it easier for companies in the commercial, transportation, and industrial sectors to submit compliance needs.

Fuentebella emphasized the significance of these platforms as a crucial milestone in effectively implementing the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law, adding the importance of having a roadmap within the law, which includes the provision of best practices and support for raising awareness.
