The Department of Energy (DOE) is commending the joint efforts of MINERGY Renewables Ventures, Inc. (MRVI) and Nestlé Philippines as they move forward with the development of the 10 megawatts (MW) Lower Cabulig and 9.3 MW Cabulig II Hydroelectric Power Projects (HPP) in Brgy. Natubo, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.
In a statement released by the department, these hydroelectric power projects will enable Nestlé to achieve full reliance on renewable energy (RE) across all its Philippine factories, completing the company’s transition to clean energy sources.
MRVI’s Lower Cabulig and Cabulig II Hydroelectric Power Projects, a partnership between Mindanao Energy Systems, Inc. (MINERGY) and Philippine Potamic Hydro Power Corporation, are key components of a broader renewable energy initiative.
Additionally, MINERGY’s pursuit of a 1.4 MW HPP in Iligan City highlights its proactive approach to ensuring a reliable and sustainable power supply for Nestlé’s transition to clean energy.
“Our target of a 35 percent share of renewable energy in the generation mix by 2030 translates to approximately 52 gigawatts of installed capacity. To achieve this ambitious target, we need all sectors to contribute — including the manufacturing sector, which plays a vital role in energy consumption and emissions reduction,” said DOE Assistant Secretary Mylene C. Capongcol.
Capongcol highlighted that the partnership between MRVI and Nestlé Philippines played a key role in advancing renewable energy goals, while also accelerating the shift towards a more resilient and eco-friendly energy landscape for future generations.
“These collaborations demonstrate the commitment of both the public and private sectors to transition to cleaner energy sources, which is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring energy security,” added Capongcol.
