A total of 73 renewable energy (RE) projects have been listed as ‘qualified bidders” under the government’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) scheduled on June 17.
The bidders are for the initial round of RE auction covering 2,000 megawatts (MW) of capacity across solar, wind, biomass, and hydro power resources.
The 34 solar projects, three biomass projects, four hydropower projects, and 12 wind projects have been qualified for the bidding for the Luzon grid. Meanwhile, six solar projects, three biomass projects, and two wind projects qualified for the Visayas grid.
Four biomass projects, five hydropower projects, and two solar projects qualified for the bidding for the Mindanao grid.
Geothermal power projects were excluded in the first round of bidding. The Department of Energy (DOE) said that separate terms of reference for the bidding notice should be issued for the resource.
In a Manila Bulletin report, the DOE is requiring that qualified bidders will offer capacity generation that has no other capacity buyers following the “indivisibility rule” Energy Asec Redentor Delola said that the bidders would have to submit an undertaking that they have no other legal impediments.
Delola added that the bids would be ranked “from the lowest, provided that it’s lower than the set GEAR price until the target capacity is filled.”
Winning bids will be awarded 20-year power supply contracts, in which the delivery of the generated power capacity would be from December 2022 to December 2025.
The DOE is looking to award the winning bidders by June 24.
