DOE Seeks PHP3.8B Budget for 2026, Eyes 100% Electrification

The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking a PHP3.8 billion budget for 2026, a 24.44% increase from its PHP3.1 billion allocation in 2025, to support the government’s electrification and clean energy targets.

As reported by Rappler, the proposed allocation is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s commitment to achieve 100% electrification nationwide by the end of his term. The 2026 National Expenditure Program earmarks PHP500 million for the total electrification project and PHP6.4 billion for the national rural electrification program.

To strengthen the country’s clean energy transition, the DOE’s renewable energy development program is set to receive PHP198 million. This represents a 15.7% increase from last year’s budget. Meanwhile, the agency’s alternative fuels and energy technology program, which prioritizes research and development on electric vehicles, liquefied petroleum gas, as well as compressed natural gas, has been allotted PHP460 million.

The DOE said these allocations will help the Philippines reach its target of 35% renewable energy in the power mix by 2030.

The DOE’s proposed 2026 budget will be deliberated by the House appropriations committee on Tuesday, September 2.
