The Department of Energy (DOE) is endorsing 21 power projects for a system impact study (SIS) to be conducted by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
The Manila Standard reported that the last batch produced 175 projects, generating almost 40,000 megawatts (MW) by the end of 2023.
The NGCP would oversee the assessment, which would determine the electrical grid’s capacity to support additional loads and pinpoint areas in need of upgrading, including transformers and transmission lines.
Projects slated for endorsement include Gigasol4 Inc.’s 420 MW East Ecija wind project located in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija; Visayas Cleanergy Inc.’s 416 MW Daga solar project in Cadiz, Negros Occidental; the 200 MW Bulacan wind project situated in Norzagray, Bulacan; and Apolaki Three, Inc.’s 150 MW wind farm in Sorsogon City.
Additional projects in the pipeline include the 145 MW Cawag solar project by Northern Palawan Power Generation Corporation, located in Subic, Zambales; CSFirst Green Agri Industrial Development Inc.’s 196 MW project in Dasol, Pangasinan; and the 239.56 MW solar project undertaken by South Cleanergy Inc. and Cadiz in Negros Occidental.
The Department of Energy (DOE) also gave its endorsement to The Blue Circle Philippines Cebu Corp.’s 142.6-MW Baao wind project in Camarines Sur and 80.6-MW Ibajay wind project in Pandan, Antique.
Additionally, approvals were granted for the 387.5-MW wind project by Giga Ace 6 Inc. in Mauban, Quezon; the 33.83-MW Limbauan solar project by BKS Green Energy Corp. in San Pablo, Isabela; and the 20-MW Lower Buhid hydro project by Buhid Hydroenergy Corp. in Maydolong, Eastern Samar.
Wyn Power Corp.’s 50-MW solar plant in Rosario, Batangas; Jord Energy Corp.’s 75-MW Umingan solar project in Pangasinan; Telos Energy Development Corp.’s 38.4-MW solar project in Iba, Zambales; and the 30-MW battery energy storage system project in Bohol and the 49.9-MW BESS project in Dingle, Iloilo, were also endorsed by the department.
Lastly, the DOE approved the study for Amihan Power Inc.’s 85-MW Bulalacao wind project located in Occidental Mindoro; Bacolod Hydro Power Corp.’s 8.62-MW hydro project in Lanao del Norte; Pagayawan Power Corp.’s 6.14-MW hydro project in Lanao del Norte; and Therma Visayas Inc.’s 169-MW project in Toledo, Cebu.
