The Department of Energy (DOE) has taken another step in its push for cleaner and more accessible electric mobility with the turnover of a Solar-Assisted Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
During the ceremony, DOE Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan, who represented Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin, led the handover alongside Director Patrick T. Aquino of the Energy Utilization Management Bureau. SBMA officials Engr. Marco A. Estabillo and Engr. Jomel M. Libut received the facility, with PNOC Renewables Corporation (PNOC RC) President and CEO Ronald R. Estilles witnessing the event.
Developed jointly by the DOE and PNOC RC under the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), the Solar-Assisted EVCS is designed to serve as a model site for integrating renewable energy into electric transport systems. The project supports ongoing efforts to widen the country’s EV infrastructure, cut greenhouse emissions, and provide cleaner transport options in key locations like the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
In her message delivered by Marasigan, Energy Secretary Garin stated, “This initiative is a testament to progress driven by partnership, innovation, and our shared commitment to a low-carbon and energy-secure future.” She added that the project demonstrates what can be achieved when government, industry, and communities collaborate toward sustainable mobility for all Filipinos.
The facility is aligned with the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) and the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI), thus reinforcing the government’s broader push for forward-looking, renewable-integrated transport solutions.
