Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Energy Usec. Donato Marcos as the National Power Corporation’s (NAPOCOR) new officer-in-charge (OIC), replacing Atty. Melchor Ridulme, who stepped in as OIC upon the death of then-NAPOCOR President Pio Benavidez in June.
Marcos, who was first appointed as Undersecretary by the late Pres. Benigno Aquino III in 2014, will retain his functions in the Department of Energy (DOE). NAPOCOR is a DOE-attached agency. However, he asked Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi if he could let go of some of his functions in the department to devote more time to the government-owned power firm.
Having been exposed to work with hydropower technologies, training in renewable energy, as well as nuclear energy technology abroad, Marcos said he’d want the state-owned company to focus on impactful projects that would benefit stakeholders especially the poor and minorities.
Marcos holds degrees in Mining Engineering and Public Administration. He also served as Mayor and Vice Mayor of Paombong, Bulacan.
